Continuing heavy rain has forced the cancellation of a newly-calendared Victorian rally, the “Killawarra Rush”, scheduled for Saturday, September 24.
With yet more rain predicted in the next fortnight, forest roads in the Killawarra area, north west of Wangaratta, already drenched from months of rain, would not hold up after the passage of rally cars.
According to Clerk of Course, Ray Wingrave, the cancellation decision was made after much consultation with forest authorities, and the organisers, the North Eastern Car Club.
“We are not prepared to risk damaging roads in the forest, particularly as yet more heavy rain is predicted for this week and next.
“We apologise to those who had entered, but we believe that the right decision has been made,” Wingrave said.
